If you are sat at home this weekend contemplating starting your own small / micro home business or becoming a self-employed freelancer / sole trader then here are ten quick-fire business ideas to use as a starting point.

  • A picture book series for adults explaining technology topics.
  • Luggage with in-built RFID chips.
  • A recipe subscription service / website.
  • Remote tech support service solving PC or Mac problems.
  • An IMDB-type site for people who have won awards in their profession.

I’d just say to anyone thinking of doing it… Do it! It really can be done and the psychological relationship to work just shifts so dramatically. You’ll find yourself actually enjoying your work.

I started a business on August 1st and have continued to run into obstacles that have served as valuable lessons.

Everyday presents a new challenge, just have to stick with it and figure out a way to make sure that I’m not creating another job for myself.

You wrote 5 start up ideas in the title but when I read it you said 10 quick ideas, typos? Anyways this idea looks interesting “IMDB-type site for people who have won awards in their profession” thanks for sharing.

I love the recipe site idea. That could be major. It’s difficult to start a biz. Having a good idea and then a plan will help.

I love these ideas that are put out there and do subscribe to feeds from several sites that just list these ideas. Other peoples take on what they come up with is brilliant and I love the active mind that can throw out ideas like this.

The recipe subscription service does appear to be very interesting. I have tried something simmilar in the past as a form of selling receipe ebooks. It has been going well but it could go much better. The problem is that people dont want to pay for recipes that they can get for free.
