I’d like to add webinars. We have been using them successfully to attract new customers and site visitors.

Have complete and utter faith in what you are doing… they only way you will succeed is if you believe in it. You can’t pay someone else to do that for you.

Hi Stefan,
I think the most important tip is point 4: ‘Make one, sell one’ as everything will flow from there….social proof, testimonials, buzz etc

What about launching a social website presence such as Facebook and/or Twitter and start engaging with customers? This will build your brand, increase your website exposure and drive traffic to your website.

A press release is always a good option too.

I would say that the most important thing is marketing which is targeted to the particular segment of customers who would buy the product or use it. The size of the business does not matter, the techniques of the marketing used does not matter as well, what matters is that through marketing you product should become popular among customers and one should do that patiently and with zeal.

Personally, I would say having a very strong business development manager would help you the best along with a full marketing strategy to help kick start the new business. Use all methods of social media to spread the work about what your company does and get as much coverage as possible this way. It’s relatively inexpensive and can be very effective is used the correct way (and there are many examples of companies misusing social media!).
It is such an important point that you make about gaining testimonials from your first customers, but I also think those customers should be asked about their contacts in their industry and see if you can sell to their contacts. An excellent way for quick growth – recommendations!
Great post nevertheless – you got me thinking on a Friday night
