• National Bank says writedowns over: National Bank of Canada said Thursday it does not expect to take more writedowns on its holdings of asset-backed commercial paper unless the global credit-market crisis deepens or the North American economy goes into severe recession.

• Tax evasion probe spreads to Canada: Authorities are reviewing client data allegedly stolen from LGT, a Liechtenstein bank, to see who owes money.
• Budget 2008: The debt factor: The feds are sticking to their guns and pursuing debt reduction, and it could become a decisive factor come election time.
